Cam Positioner with Simple Programming
for High-Precision Applications

JANUARY 31, 2005 (ASIA PACIFIC) -
Omron has enhanced and expanded its H8PS range of Cam Positioners to deliver new benchmark standards in functionality and
ultimate ease of use.
Suitable for use in high speed, high
precision applications, the three models in the 1/4 DIN range
now offer 8, 16 or 32 outputs, and combine simple programming
with features such as advanced angle compensation, a bank
function for multi-product production, and a large, highly
visible display.
Today many machines in the packaging, printing, assembly and
other sectors are characterised by multiple operations on a
product as it is carried through the process. Wherever indexing
tables are used on machinery, there will often be a need to
control the timing of operations on the product based on angular
position data. Where a single machine requires a number of cam positioners, Omron’s H8PS range provides the ideal solution,
delivering ease of use whilst offering all the functionality and
precision required for even the most demanding applications.
The H8PS range now comprises three compact models, offering 8,
16 or 32 outputs, whilst a parallel input adapter allows two
units to be used concurrently to provide up to 64 outputs – all
from a single encoder input. The functionality of the original
H8PS has been enhanced, with the new models suitable for
high-speed operation up to 1600 rev/min. The H8PS range also
meets the needs of high-precision applications by providing a
step resolution of up to 0.5°(720 steps per revolution). Further
features include an ‘Advance Angle Compensation’ function to
automatically advance the on/off angle of outputs in proportion
to machine speed to compensate for any delay in timing of the
on/off operation.
The H8PS has always been characterised by its ease of use, and
this has been further enhanced in the new series. The unit
itself provides a clear and simple user interface with
one-key/one-action setting. Alternatively, all parameters can be
set in a spreadsheet on a PC and downloaded into the H8PS via
its USB interface. A bank function meets the needs of
applications where a single machine is used for a number of
different product variants – the H8PS allows up to eight
different sets of parameters to be stored to facilitate quick
and easy product changeovers.
All models in the range feature a highly visible display, using
Omron’s backlit negative transmissive LCD technology to ensure
excellent visibility in all lighting conditions. Both the speed
and the present angular position can be displayed at the same
time and in different colours – red and green – for quick,
at-a-glance status monitoring.
