Measuring & Monitoring Relay Topic: Is SE Motor Protective Relay Applicable in an Inverter Circuit?

FAQ No. FAQ01565

Question

Can the SE Motor Protective Relay be used in an inverter circuit?

Answer

No, it cannot. The SE is designed for sine wave (50/60 Hz) motor protection. If the SE is used in an inverter circuit, errors will occur in the overloaded element, sometimes causing unnecessary operation in open-phase or reverse-phase elements. For this reason, 3-element protective functions cannot be used in an inverter circuit.

Use the K2CM Motor Relays or K2MR Multi Motor Relays for motor protection when controlling the motor with an Inverter.
